Healthy Snack Challenge with California Grapes

I was so excited to participate in the California Grapes Healthy Snack Challenge.  I have been trying to come up with a recipe that would be a great snack not just for me, but for my kids too.  When I went grocery shopping I decided the Black California Grapes looked the best, and went from there.

I decided to do a play on Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches.  I love grape jelly on my sandwiches.

I hope you like my recipe:

A Play on PB&J Muffins

1C flour
1tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
a pinch of salt
1/2 C brown sugar
1/4C low-fat vanilla yogurt
1 Tbsp veg oil
3 Tbs peanut butter
2 egg whites
1-1/4 C pureed black grapes (the measurement is after they are pureed)
1/4tsp sugar

Mix together dry ingredients.

In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer on low speed and blend the brown sugar, yogurt, oil, peanut butter, and egg whites.

Add to dry ingredients and stir-don't over mix

Puree black grapes with 1/4tsp sugar in food processor (you need a little over 1 C) and fold in to the batter until fully incorporated.

Make into any size muffins you would prefer, Bake at 400* for about 12 mins.

Remove from pans and let cool on wire rack.

Makes about 15 regular size muffins.

I had so much fun with this challenge and "inventing" a healthy recipe.  These muffins were a big hit with my kids.  I want to make them again using green grapes just for fun.  I might even get more adventurous and make a filling for them using the grapes too.  The possibilities are endless.

Check-out GrapesFromCalifornia on Facebook and enter your own snack recipe for a chance at $5000. Get to your grocery store and stock up on California Grapes and create some amazing snacks.

Thanks to California Grapes and Family Review Network, I will be entered to win a $200 VISA gift card.
I also received a $10 Visa Gift Card to buy ingredients to make my recipe.  All opinions are 100% mine.

Creative BioScience 90 day trial, and a better life.....

It is SUMMER!!  Woohoo!!  However, I don't know about all of you, but I miss not being able to wear layers and hiding those trouble spots on my body that clothes can hide.  I feel a lot more naked in the summer even with clothes on.  Anyways, my busy life, and being a single mom, has forced me to work full-time, and push aside my time at the gym.  With my children out of school--I would rather spend time with them then get a babysitter so I can go to the gym.  That being said we do get outside a lot and get some exercise, but nothing like the work-outs I could do in the gym.

I was needing something to help continue my weight loss goals, and keep me fit all summer long.  Thanks to Creative BioSciences and their different products to choose from, I am getting ready to jump-start a weight loss journey, and better-healthier lifestyle.  I am training for a 5K in August too (my first),  so I need all the help that I can get.

"Creative Bioscience combines research, innovation, and technology to offer safe and effective diet support products. Our focus is safety, satisfaction and quality assurance. Our products are manufactured in FDA inspected and GMP approved facilities in the United States."

I have the opportunity to participate in a 90-day trial of their African Mango Diet Lean.  I chose African Mango Lean because it is suited to someone who wants to lose less than 20lbs, and wants an energy boosting formula.  It can help lose weight, manage cholesterol, and control diabetes.  The fact in has anti-aging qualities too is an added bonus!  Diabetes runs in my family, so I need to be conscience of that.  I love sweets and that puts me in added danger for Diabetes.

I am hoping for success to suppress my appetite, help burn fat, and boost my metabolism.  I can't wait to get started.  I will keep you posted on my results, and also give you a complete report when my 90 days is complete.  Here is to summer and healthy living.

PROBAR Gluten-Free Bars Review & Giveaway

I recently, have gone from a life of being a stay-at-home mom and only working part-time jobs to a basically full-time working mom.  My life is very busy.  I am guilty of skipping breakfast and lunch more often then not.  Although, I am trying to eat better, sometimes I need something on-the-go.  Normally, fast-food is your only quick on-the-go option, but that usually leaves me filling sick and unsatisfied.

I was given the opportunity to sample PROBAR's all new gluten-free Fruition bars.  Fruition comes in 7 flavors: Blueberry, Cherry, Cran-Raspberry, Peach, Lemon, Strawberry, and Chocolate Orange.

This superfood snack bar is only ~160 calories. Fruition is designed to deliver 1 serving of fruit in every bar and is built from a 100% vegan, organic, non-GMO, gluten-free medley of dates, oats, chia seeds, and cashews.

Just in March they launched these yummy bars, and moving to strictly Gluten-free products. I was a little skeptical of a gluten-free product.  I don't have any dietary restrictions and always shy away from gluten-free products.  In the past I have been afraid that if they are gluten-free they must be gross.  I since have discovered that isn't the case, and PROBAR definitely follows suit in making a gluten-free product that is good.

I actually liked all the flavors of the bars.  The Chocolate Orange and Blueberry were my favorites.  It was perfect to eat at work for lunch, and keep me satisfied through dinner.  In May of this year Prevention Magazine chose FRUITION as "Best Bar" in their 2012 Healthy Food Awards.  I am so pleased to have a quick, on-the-go, healthy food option for those insane days when I don't even have time to sit down to a decent meal.

**PROBAR has a special one-time discount for ALL of my readers....go to and enter code BLOGGER at check-out.  You will get 40% off your first order--AWESOME!!**

Now it is GIVEAWAY TIME!!  One week only so spread the word and get in your entries.  You can win a sample box of FRUITION bars!!  Perfect for a summer treat.
(Use the Rafflecopter form below to enter, if it doesn't show-up click-on the blog post title and give it time to load)--GOOD LUCK!!

Konsyl--Heart Healthy, Fiber Giveaway

I have been trying to eat healthy, and lose some weight before summer and swimsuit season.  When I heard about Konsyl and the opportunity to review their Original Formula Psyllium Fiber, I decided to give it a try.  It is 100% natural, gluten free, helps lower cholesterol, and is sugar free too.

It can be taken daily to help reduce the risk of heart disease, help with weight management, and can help regulate constipation and diarrhea.  I know, I don't get enough fiber in my diet, and this was an easy way to do so.

I got the Original Formula in 30-6g packets.  I loved how there was no measuring.  You just pour the packet into a Konsyl shaker with the proper amount of fluid (Orange Juice and Lemonade were my favorites to use), and shake! Drink immediately.  I always drank mine before eating and I seemed to eat less.  I am going to continue taking it on a daily basis.

Join the Konsyl community on Facebook at you can find more information about Konsyl, helpful tips to get more fiber into your diet, great recipes and special giveaway offers.

They are currently celebrating 4000 fans on Facebook with a giveaway winner each Friday til June 1st, so be sure to go and enter.

Thanks to Family Review Network and Konsyl , I have an opportunity to do a giveaway here too!!

One of you will WIN the same thing I was able to review:

We Bought A Zoo Out Today on Blu-Ray/DVD *Giveaway*

Featuring Family Friendly Audio Track The Whole Family Will Go Wild for this Heartwarming Adventure Starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson On Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download TODAY !!

"Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire) and starring Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church, WE BOUGHT A ZOO is “a sweet-natured tale…that you’ll want to see with your kids”."

"Benjamin Mee (Damon) is a Los Angeles newspaper columnist and adventure writer who, as a single father, faces the challenges of raising his two young children.  Hoping that a fresh start and a new life will restore their family spirit, Mee quits his job and buys an old rural house outside the city with a unique bonus feature: a zoo named the Rosemoor Animal Park, where dozens of animals reside under the care of head zookeeper Kelly Foster (Johansson) and her dedicated team.  With no experience, limited time and a shoestring budget, Mee sets out with the support of his family and the local community to reopen the zoo.  Now, Benjamin is no longer reporting an adventure story; he’s living it in his own backyard."

My Opinion: This movie is based on a memoir by Benjamin Mee.  I didn't read the novel, but have it on my must read list.  The movie was really good.  I like Matt Damon, and thought he was a perfect fit in the movie.  There was a little language that I was surprised about, and didn't appreciate explaining the words to my 8 and 5 yr old daughters, but overall it was a good movie.  I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars!!

Giveaway Time:
Thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, One of you has a chance to win a copy of We Bought a Zoo on DVD and a copy of the original novel (use the Rafflecopter form below to enter.  If the form does not show-up please click on the blog post title)

Top 5 Animal Lover Films!!

Is out on Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Download on April 3rd!!  To help celebrate the release, I would like to share with you the Top 5 Animal Lover Films.  Do you agree with this list?  Do you have a better one to add?  Share with me in the comments your thoughts, and it will give you an extra entry into the We Bought A Zoo giveaway that will be posted tomorrow!!

The American Humane Association monitors the treatment of animals on-set for film, television and commercials, etc and every Screen Actors Guild productions are required to provide safety representatives unlimited access whenever animals are used.  If the production meets or exceeds the organization’s standards, the film is given the coveted “No Animals Were Harmed” disclaimer in the end credits of the film.  We Bought a Zoo is one of the films that earned this certification for their ethical treatment of animals.  To ensure the safety of the animals featured in the film, much of the action were filmed against a green screen, especially when predatory animals and humans were in the same scene together.  Those shots were typically filmed separately and then digitally placed together later.  In honor of the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release on April 3rd, we will explore five films that have received the same high honor.

In the 2005 film adaptation of Lassie, starring Peter O’Toole, Samantha Morton and John Lynch, the Carraclough family is forced to sell their beloved collie to the Duke of Rudling due to economic hardships.  Suffering from mistreatment in her new home, Lassie runs away and embarks on a journey to go back to her family and loyal master.  In the film, two nearly identical dogs were used and were alternated during the film, according to each dog’s skills.  To ensure the dogs’ safety, all of the actors and crew were introduced to the dogs and received extensive handling instructions before production began.

Marley and Me tells the story of newlyweds John and Jennifer Grogan.  John surprises his wife with a new puppy, who grows up to become an energized but mischievous and naughty member of their family.  As the Grogan family expands and Marley grows older, the family picks up some valuable life lessons from their “clearance puppy.”  Several labradors were used for the role of Marley.  Before filming started, cast and crew were instructed on how to properly handle each dog.  During production, streets were closed off to traffic and all grounds and fences were inspected for safety purposes.

In Disney’s Enchanted, Giselle is a fairytale princess who lives in Andalasia, an animated fairy tale world where animals talk and happy endings exist.  When an evil queen throws Giselle into a portal, she ends up in the middle of New York City, where she finds herself being rescued by a handsome, but hardened divorce lawyer.  Several scenes called for numerous animals, sometimes of different breeds.  For instance, one scene involved several rats.  During rehearsals, stuffed prop rats were used.  For the scenes in Central Park, the dogs seen in the background were all on leashes and their owners doubled as actors.  In addition, the outdoor set was closed off to the public.
In Steven Speilberg’s War Horse, a farmer’s son develops a bond with a horse that his father buys for their farm.  Young Albert trains the horse and calls him Joey and they become inseparable. However, when a rainstorm destroys the field, the family decides to sell Joey to a young cavalry officer in order to pay the overdue rent.  As World War I emerges, both Albert and Joey find themselves in journeys that eventually will bring them to cross paths again.  To ensure the safety of the animals in the film, animals were trained for weeks, some for months, for the action seen in the film.  In addition, costumed trainers were in the scene during the filming and trainers stood just off camera.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins tells the story of a businessman, Tom Popper, who’s sacrificed everything and worked his entire life to become the #1 real estate mogul in New York City.  In the midst of closing the deal of his career, he gets an unusual gift from his father – six penguins that will unravel life as he once knew it.   To ensure the safety of the penguins in the film, floors and props were disinfected each time before filming began.  Actors, in addition, carried fish in their pockets to entice the penguins to stay near them or to follow when needed.

I received a review copy of We Bought A Zoo in exchange for this provided post.  All opinions are 100% mine, and no other compensation was received.

I love Pinterest.  You can search and "pin" pretty much anything.  Keep all your wants, wishes, funny things, likes, etc.  All in one place.

I have a board specifically for Home Inspiration.  You can find me on Pinterest--HERE!!  I love looking at home decor ideas, and whenever I own my own home, I will have something to fall back on that has stored all the fabulous ideas I have found.

I have recently come across Rustic Cabin Style, this board has a couple ideas that I think are super simple, and a nice touch to any home.  I really have no idea what style of home I want.  My wide-variety of likes could lead me to an everything-crazy home if I am not careful.

I love this rustic, natural headboard:
Also, these wood shelves, are a fun touch:
A simple stair runner would do the trick, to add a different element of texture and fabric:
Wow--I love this kitchen on Martha Stewart, the natural wood is just in the right places:
This window treatment is also so simple, and rustic:
I love that Pinterest has opened my eyes to an array of styles, and keeps me looking for more and more fun ideas for my home.  Rustic/Wood Decor is on the top of my list right now.  Be sure to check-out Pinterest, and go follow BMDirect for more home decor ideas.

Giveaway: Tooth Fairy 2, and Top 5 Film Fairies

Top 5 Film Fairies
Inspired by TOOTH FAIRY 2
In TOOTH FAIRY 2, Larry becomes part of a long list of awesome fairies on film. This feature will explore our top five favorite fairies, including Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Tinker Bell in Hook.
Enter at the bottom of this feature to win a copy of TOOTH FAIRY 2 on DVD!
Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Stanley Tucci stars as Puck in the 1999 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In this adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic comedy, Tucci’s Puck is a clever and mischievous sprite, who, under the tutelage of King Oberon (played by Rupert Everett), plays tricks on unsuspecting lovers who wander into the forest which he inhabits. His hijinks include making people fall in love with each other, facilitating mud wrestling, and giving an amateur actor the head of an ass.
Fairy Godmother in Shrek 2

Jennifer Saunders voices the evil Fairy Godmother in 2004’s Shrek 2. This atypical fairy godmother is more of a self-involved business woman than the selfless fairy that people imagine, making shady deals, running a heartless factory, and using her magic for personal gain. However, Fairy Godmother’s shining moment may be when she performs a stellar rendition of “Holding Out For a Hero” at the royal ball, before being disintegrated by her own spell.
Tinker Bell in Hook

1991’s Hook follows a grown-up Peter Pan who has forgotten his childhood and all of the adventures it contained, but is forced to relive the magic of Neverland when Captain Hook abducts his children and holds them hostage there. In this revamp of the classic tale, Julia Roberts plays an especially fiesty version of Tinker Bell. Tinker Bell isn’t afraid to take controll of a situation, and often works to save Peter’s life because she is deeply in love with him.
Crysta in FernGully: The Last Rainforest

FernGully: The Last Rainforest is a 1992 animated film about a forest filled with magical creatures, and their struggle to save their home from pollution and logging. Crysta (voiced by Samantha Mathis) is a young fairy who meets a logger named Zak, and accidentally shrinks him down to her size. Crysta heroically battles Hexxus, an evil spirit that feeds off of pollution and destruction, and manages to defeat him and save FernGully.
Mandy in Ella Enchanted

In 2004’s Ella Enchanted, Minnie Driver plays Mandy, a kindhearted household fairy. Mandy is the only person, aside from Ella herself, who knows about Ella’s “gift” of obedience. While well meaning and helpful, Mandy’s spells often go awry. For instance, Mandy’s boyfriend, Benny, was accidentally turned into a book. However, in the end Mandy is able to help Ella reverse her curse of obdience and change Benny back into a human, making her an awesome fairy.
